Guide by Cell Announces Revolutionary Mobile Giving Service

New Text Messaging Donation Service Helps Nonprofits Weather Economic Storm

San Francisco, CA, May 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Guide by Cell, the nation’s leading mobile technology provider for nonprofit organizations, announced the launch of its new “Give by Cell” Division. Give by Cell is a service that allows nonprofit organizations to receive donations from visitors and patrons, through the use of mobile phones.

Additionally today the Mobile Giving Foundation, the national organization that administers mobile giving for the major U.S. phone companies, awarded Guide by Cell with one of its coveted application system provider designations. This means Guide by Cell is only of a few technology companies with a unique relationship with the phone companies to create mobile services, products, and applications.

Charitable giving in the U.S. approximates $300 billion with more than 75 percent of the total coming from individual contributions.

“Mobile giving is a new and revolutionary channel for nonprofits to expand their fund-raising and donor interaction efforts,” expressed Jim Manis, Chairman and CEO of the Mobile Giving Foundation. “I am delighted that Guide by Cell is a member of our approved application provider network. As the country’s leading provider of mobile solutions to the museum and cultural nonprofit community, they have demonstrated a passion and creativity in their ability to offer easy to use mobile technologies to help nonprofits succeed. Offering the ability to raise donations and engage museum patrons through mobile giving is an excellent addition to their current mobile offerings,” Manis added.

The Service: Give by Cell mobile giving allows participants to make on-the-spot, immediate donations. Programs can be established to reach out to past donors on a regular basis, in effect setting up a repetitive giving plan.

The service is simple to use for the donor and the nonprofit.

The donor sends a text message to a short code provided by Give by Cell, referencing the nonprofit organization’s name. They receive a confirmation text message, and once sent, the donation is completed in less than one minute. The donor will see the donation charge appear on a subsequent month’s phone bill.

It is easy for the nonprofits to use the Give by Cell service. The nonprofit completes an application and, once approved, begins marketing the offering. Donations are deposited in the nonprofit organization’s account. For example, the Washington DC-based Duke Ellington Jazz Festival (Festivals, DC) is a great example of how one nonprofit will use the product.

"Raising funds is crucial to our organization," said Sunny Sumter, Outreach and Partnerships Director for the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, an annual jazz festival dedicated to cultural and educational enrichment, with over 100 programs in nearly 50 venues in Washington, DC. "We're excited about this savvy technology Give by Cell, which will give us a boost with a new generation of supporters at our festival this June. This technology is cool."

Give by Cell provides everything else in a simple to use service. The short code and keywords, the technology required to send and receive text messages and an easy to use web-based reporting package are all provided in the service package. The Mobile Giving Foundation provides the cash collection service, and sends the funds donated directly to the nonprofit. The carriers are providing this service to the Mobile Giving Foundation commission free.

“We are delighted to receive this opportunity from the Mobile Giving Foundation,” stated David Asheim, President and Founder of Guide by Cell Inc. “I formed our company to help the nonprofit sector use mobile technology to engage with their visitors and patrons. Our 500 plus clients are a testament to the success of our vision. Adding mobile giving to our suite of services allows us to help nonprofits weather the economic storm by reaching a new audience of givers, who may even convert into repetitive long-term financial supporters.”
