May Winners in The Animal Rescue Site and Petfinder.com Challenge Range from Montana to Maryland

Seattle, WA, May 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- More than 1.6 million votes have been cast in The Animal Rescue Site’s $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge and another four rescue organizations received “weekly winner” grants of $1,000 in May: Seminole County Animal Services in Florida, Rolling Dog Ranch in Montana, Community Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. (CARA) in Mississippi, and Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Maryland. In April, Best Friends Animal Society in Utah and Operation Scarlet in Pennsylvania turned out enough online votes to secure $1,000 “weekly winner” grants. All six organizations also remain eligible for the $20,000 Grand Prize to be awarded in July as well as number of other grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

Before the Challenge wraps up on July 26, 2009, more than 60 grants for a total of $100,000 will be awarded to shelters and animal rescue organizations enrolled in the Petfinder.com network.

Animal lovers can vote for their favorite rescue organizations once a day. “We still have nine weeks left in the Shelter+ Challenge, which means another nine shelters will win weekly awards. What’s amazing is how this is rolling across the country, with shelters from Maryland to Montana benefiting from this Challenge. Also, even greater numbers of people are participating this year,” said Rosemary Jones, a spokesperson for The Animal Rescue Site. “At the end of the Challenge, there will be at least one winner in every state as well as the other awards going to shelters in the United States, Canada, or the US territories.”

How the Challenge Works

Visitors to www.theanimalrescuesite.com can choose from a list of more than 12,500 animal rescue and welfare organizations created by Petfinder.com. Visitors can cast one vote daily to determine which shelters will receive Challenge grants. Voters are limited to one (1) vote per person per day and votes will be accepted from now until Midnight (PST) on Sunday, July 26, at The Animal Rescue Site.

Any Petfinder.com member located in United States, Canada, or the U.S. territories is eligible to win a grant. The “weekly winner” grant can be won only once by an organization.
