)-- Samurai Karate Studio, located at 2000 Clemson Road, Columbia, SC, 29229, held Free self defense classes for women during the month of April. These classes were attended by 9-15 women ranging in age from 12 years old and up.
"Offering free self defense classes is part of Samurai Karate Studio's commitment to making our local community safer for the women traveling about town" commented Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor, "I love helping women to empower themselves by learning how to defend themselves in many common situtations."
During the course of the workshops, Sensei Feldt covers domestic violence facts in South Carolina, the laws governing self defense, body language, the power of your voice, attack indicators, common everyday weapons, attack points, defense against ground assault and how to get out of being duct taped.
"This is a very serious course for those women who really want to understand why they get attacked and what to do in a situation where you have to defend yourself," commented Feldt. "It is my hope that if I can effect the life of one person who might find themselves in a dangerous situation and they helped defend themselves, then I am thrilled to provide these workshops free to the community!"
Samurai Karate Studio teaches a traditional style of karate to children and adults beginning at age 3. In addition to their karate curriculum, they have programs that teach stranger danger, anti bullying, diabetes awareness, anger management, peace education leadership and environmental self defense.
