Gift-East: Giving the Best without the Stress

Denver, CO, August 11, 2006 --(PR.com)-- It’s never too early to think about gifting giving. The holidays are fast approaching, and birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions occur year round. Here are some tips from a “gift whisper,” someone who always seems to have the perfect gift for an occasion at her fingertips.

“Planning ahead eliminates the frustration and time involved in finding the perfect gift,” says Sandy Dixon, a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers and owner of Evergreen, Colorado-based Interior Arrangements, Inc., one of the country’s leading redesign and real estate staging training companies. Here’s how Dixon goes about her organized gift giving.

“First, identify what the opportunities for gift giving are, who the recipients will be and their individual interests,” says Dixon, who has a form for each special person that notes his or her favorite color, restaurants, hobbies, any sports interest, and themes in his or her life.

Then, throughout year, Dixon is in the habit of paying attention to the every day chances she has to find the perfect gift: local art fairs/community events, shopping trips, vacations, etc. She keeps her mental list of special people and their favorites in mind. “If I find the perfect gift for someone’s birthday or Christmas, even if those dates are 8 months away, I’ll buy it. And if looking at something doesn’t trigger my memory, I keep a cheat sheet in my wallet and refer to it periodically,” says Dixon. This eliminates last minute rushing, is emotionally satisfying and, most importantly, gives a sense of relief.

Finally, Dixon organizes her “pre-shopping” on a shelf or in a closet, labeled according to person or occasion. She advises to place items in clear bags or attach a note to the boxes or bags with their contents. Wrapping/cards/gift bags are kept in the same place. “You can’t give it if you can’t find it or see what’s there,” concludes Dixon, who often makes themed gift baskets for her friends and loved ones, all from her gift closet.
