Sonix SP Installation at St. Boniface General Hospital

Sonix becomes an instrumental diagnostic tool for Labor and Delivery Unit in the Second Largest Hospital in Western Canada

Burnaby, Canada, August 12, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Ultrasonix Medical Corporation, a company dedicated to providing “Smart Ultrasound for better patient care,” announces the recent installation of its Sonix SP at the St. Boniface General Hospital, the second largest hospital in Manitoba, Canada.

In 2005, an unprecedented 5,300 babies were born at St. Boniface General Hospital. According to Dr. Philip Hall, Professor at University of Manitoba and Director of St. Boniface’s Fetal Assessment and Manitoba Obstetrical Outreach Programs, St. Boniface is the third largest obstetric hospital west of Ontario.

“Over the past years, St. Boniface’s obstetrics program has grown enormously in both range of services provided and numbers of births, but we have focused continually on making prenatal care better.” says Dr. Hall, a 17-year St. Boniface veteran. “Our goals include making every expecting family feel as comfortable and confident as possible throughout their pregnancy.”

Dr. Hall says staff will be able to provide improved care to hospital’s “almost mothers” as a result of arrival of this new “state-of-the-art” equipment. “We are very excited to acquire this new unit because it is so user friendly, has amazing image quality, and most importantly, will help us do our job better with greater ease for labouring patients.” Most ultrasound units weigh 500 to 600 pounds, whereas the new unit, although full sized, weighs about 150 pounds thus can be easily moved to the bedside. “That this superb machine is made in Canada is also very appealing.” commented Hall.

“Ultrasonix is delighted to add St. Boniface General Hospital in its growing list of customers and is confident that Sonix SP will help St. Boniface staff provide better patient care”, stated John Buhler, President and CEO of Ultrasonix Medical Corporation.
