The Jones Company Builds "Green" Habitat for Humanity Home with Help from Crye-Leike Realtors

Franklin, TN, June 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- For the fourth time in four years, The Jones Company and Crye-Leike Realtors have partnered to build another Habitat for Humanity home in Williamson County, only this time the home was built by “Green” standards.

The Jones Company and Crye-Leike, REALTORS® began work on the home at 400 Beechcroft Road in Spring Hill in October and completed the home in time for the dedication ceremony which took place on Friday, March 27th at noon. This partnership between the two companies represents a $70,000 commitment, with more than 30 supply sponsors and over 100 volunteers per year.

“The Jones Company has taken a lead role in our Building New Traditions initiative to build 46 homes over four years. Their employees also volunteer on committees and the Board, providing us with expertise in designing, planning and purchasing activities,” says John Besser, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County.

The new homeowners are Rockeya Turner and her four children, Arrionna (7), Asharria (4), Keelan (3), and Khaliah (9 months). Rockeya was born in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School. After successfully completing over 400 “sweat equity” hours by attending an 8-week budget and financial management class, home maintenance and credit classes, working on Habitat homes with other partner families, Rockeya was ready to start building her own home with her sponsors, The Jones Company and Crye-Leike, in early October. At the end of October Rockeya and several others were laid-off by her employer. Rockeya spent the holidays searching for a new job which would pay the same wages so she could afford her new mortgage. She was assisted by Habitat of Williamson County Board members who sent out her resume to several area businesses. By the end of January Rockeya secured another job.

“It was hard at times to keep my faith and hopes up but I was surrounded by family and friends who would not let me give up,” says Rockeya Turner. “I prayed a lot, especially for patience. I am so grateful for my sponsors, for Habitat and for everyone who helped me fulfill my dream of homeownership! They are angels.”

The project is a result of the partners’ ongoing commitment to build four new Habitat for Humanity homes in Williamson County in four years. The Jones Company has made a further commitment to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars over the next few years by making “Green” homes a standard offering for every home they build from now on. Efforts include everything from using green suppliers and manufacturers to using ENERGY STAR® products and making it as energy and water efficient as possible. Every single family Jones home is now tested by an independent third party verifier and must pass the stringent guidelines set forth by National Association of Home Builder’s Green Building Program and ENERGY STAR®.

"We remain firmly committed to Habitat for Humanity and were happy to build this home to meet our ‘Green’ standards, which will provide for substantial energy savings for the family” said Richard Chapman, president and partner of The Jones Company. “Both of these initiatives are important to me and my team and we are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in our community with Crye-Leike as our partner.”

The Jones Company and Crye-Leike partnership to build a Habitat for Humanity house together stems from a strategic marketing alliance formed between them in September 2000.

"In these challenging times for many families, it's important for us all to stay focused and continue investing in our neighborhoods and communities," said Harold Crye, cofounder and CEO of Crye-Leike, REALTORS. "The U.S. housing market is one of the foundations of our economy and we're extremely proud of our association with Habitat for Humanity and The Jones Company to help people achieve the dream of owning a home."
