Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog & Joyful Paws Releases Activity Workbook

Author, Barbara Techel and her “walk ‘n roll” dog Frankie release an activity book to help teach compassion, kindness and overcoming adversity.

Elkhart Lake, WI, June 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Teaching our children compassion and kindness can at times be tough in the world we live in today. But sometimes all we have to do is simply show them. That is exactly what Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog does through her books.

Frankie is a dachshund who suffered a spinal injury in 2006 which resulted in partial paralysis. She was custom-fitted for a doggie wheelchair and does just about everything she used to do before she hurt herself. She lives life with gusto.

Techel wrote Frankie’s first book, Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog because people were so fascinated by the little dog with tires. She was frequently asked what happened to Frankie. Children were especially curious. After explaining to a nine year old boy why Frankie is in a wheelchair he said, “Well it does not matter what you look like on the outside, but what is on the inside.” Techel knew in that moment Frankie’s story could have a profound and positive effect on kids. Though the book is geared toward children, people of all ages can relate to the story.

Frankie, with the help of her mom, now expands on Frankie’s message of “always be positive and keep on rolling” with the release of Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog Activity Workbook. The book is 28-pages of fun filled word searches, crossword puzzles, mazes, coloring pages and more to help children grow to be compassionate and kind human beings.

Techel’s book was named 2008 National Best Books Award winner by USA Book News for children’s picture book softcover category. It has also been nominated by Dog Writer’s of America for the Merial Animal-Human Bond Award. Frankie herself was also inducted into the 2009 Wisconsin Pet Hall of Fame.

Struggling with a physical challenge can be overwhelming for people and animals alike. But, Frankie has a zest for life that will have you cheering and believing that all things are possible. Techel hopes that Frankie’s books will help anyone facing a challenge to realize they always have a choice. She also hopes to continue to bring a positive face and voice to animals with a disability and show that they truly can live a quality life if given a chance.
