Big Fat Whale is Fun Stuff: Alt-Weekly Cartoonist Publishes Latest Collection

Brian McFadden, Boston-based cartoonist of the alt-weekly comic strip, Big Fat Whale, unveils his newest comic collection, "Fun Stuff for Dum-Dums."

Somerville, MA, June 12, 2009 --( In the independent, DIY spirit of alternative comics, Brian McFadden has self-published “Fun Stuff for Dum-Dums,” the latest collection of his acerbic weekly comic strip Big Fat Whale.

In the midst of the worst economic climate in a generation, McFadden opted to avoid pitching a book to skittish publishers and made this collection available directly to readers through the on-demand printing company Lulu.

Big Fat Whale has been appearing in alternative newsweeklies since 2004 and has already garnered praise from the genre's biggest names. Tom Tomorrow, author of This Modern World remarked, “Brian McFadden's cartoons are quirky and hilarious.” Ted Rall, president of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC), says, “Smart, loose, and always on-the-mark hilarious, it's one of the dozen or so comics that I make a point to read every week." And Ruben Bolling, author of Tom the Dancing Bug has said, "Brian McFadden's hilarious Big Fat Whale is both a revelation and a throwback, combining brilliantly new, innovative humor with old time comedy schtick."

The comics in “Fun Stuff” ridicule the politics and pop culture of the last four years; from the end of the Bush years to the first months of the Obama Administration.
