HotelTravel.com Tees up Hotel Deals for US Open at Bethpage Black New York

HotelTravel.com is going tee to green for this year’s US Open at Bethpage Black State Golf Club, with superb hotel deals in the ‘Big Apple’. Get ready to track Tiger Woods as he goes for his second straight US Open win and a record tying fourth title after his recent come from behind victory at the Memorial Tournament.

Phuket, Thailand, June 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- HotelTravel.com is teeing up excellent hotel offers in New York City for golf fans attending the US Open 2009 at Bethpage Black from 15 to 21 June.

Those lucky enough to get tickets to this year’s US Open will have the chance to see history in the making. Tiger Woods will be gunning for his second straight US Open title, and a recording tying fourth tournament, joining the likes of golf immortals Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus.

In 2008 Tiger defeated Rocco Mediate in a Monday playoff to win his third U.S. Open and 14th major championship. Woods birdied the 18th hole of the play to keep the playoff going, sending it into sudden death and where he won it on the 19th hole.

HotelTravel.com CEO, Mr Blair Speers, said this year’s US Open would offer another dramatic down-to-the-wire finish at Bethpage Black.

“Tiger definitely showed he remains the man to beat after recently making up four shots during the final round to win the Memorial. He won his second US Open title at Bethpage Black in 2002, and he was the only golfer under par for the tournament.

“This year HotelTravel.com is highlighting New York City hotels for the US Open. Many golf fans believe Long Island hotels near the course are the most convenient option. However since parking at Bethpage Black is almost non-existent and drop off areas limited, riding the train from the city is actually the most efficient means of transportation.

“Plus it offers the advantage of being able to live large in the ‘Big Apple’ after golf,” he added.

Anyone that braves the congested Long Island Expressway will be forced to park at Jones Beach, New York State’s biggest sand trap, and then take a 25 to 35 minute shuttle bus ride to the course. Crowds of up to 50,000 spectators a day will be on hand to watch, so this makes the MTA Long Island Rail the fastest, easiest and most convenient way to get to the US Open from downtown New York.

The round trip fare from New York’s Penn Station to Farmingdale Long Island Rail Road Station is US$14 and the trip takes less than an hour. Then it is just a chip shot (about a mile) to Bethpage Black by shuttle bus. Train service will run every 30 minutes with extra trains added at peak periods and on the weekend of 20-21 June.

For 3-star hotels in New York City consider Roosevelt Hotel New York (from US$201 per night), Wellington Hotel New York City (from US$210 per night), Bentley Hotel (from US$232 per night), Helmsley Middletowne Hotel (from US$248 per night) or the Hampton Inn Manhattan Seaport Financial District Hotel (from US$293 per night).

In the 4-star range Radisson Lexington Hotel New York (from US$194 per night), Park Central New York Hotel (from US$203 per night), Beekman Tower Hotel (from US$241 per night), Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel New York City (from US$256 per night), Helmsley Park Lane Hotel (from US$261 per night), Affinia 50 Hotel (from US$267 per night) or the Dylan Hotel New York (from US$284 per night).

According to Mr Speers, one of the most endearing aspects of the US Open is that it truly is the ‘People’s Open’. Any professional golfer, or any amateur with a USGA men's handicap index of 1.4 or lower, can attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open. Every year, the USGA conducts local qualifiers, followed by sectional qualifiers, for the U.S. Open. Qualifying is one thing, winning an entirely different story. The last golfer to actually win the U.S. Open after going through sectional qualifying was New Zealand’s Michael Campbell in 2005.

Though a low handicapper himself, Mr Speers said he has no current plans to try and qualify for the US Open. However he does encourage golfers to check out the HotelTravel.com’s popular ‘CEO’s Golf Picks’, which spotlights destinations around the world where the company features its best selling golf hotels.

***All hotel rates are as of 12 June, 2009, priced in US dollars and subject to change.
