Two Southern Oregon Students Bring Home National Taekwondo Champion Honors

Medford, OR, July 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Flying feet and piercing screams were in abundance at the Austin (Texas) Convention Center this week as USA Taekwondo conducted its 2009 U.S. National Junior Olympic Championship event June 30-July 2. Over 2,000 athletes ages 6-72, aided by over 550 coaches, competed during the week vying for the title of Jr. Olympic National Champion. Two competitors who earned that coveted title are from Southern Oregon. Gianna Isola, 11 brought home a Double National Champion title, winning gold in both her forms and World-Class Olympic sparring divisions. Aloha Kaeo-Wailehua, 9, won gold in blue belt World-class sparring. Kaeo-Wailehua also brought home the bronze in forms competition. Also representing Southern Oregon and medaling at the event were Alexa Lowe, 11, Joshua Mondragon, 9 and Teighlor Traister, 12. Lowe won bronze in black belt sparring, Mondragon won bronze in forms and Traister won silver in sparring. All five students earned the right to attend Nationals by previously medaling at a National Qualifier event held in San Jose, CA in May.
