New Center for Photography Opens Doors in Santa Clarita Valley

Santa Clarita, CA, July 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Photographers Mel and Karen Carll have announced the opening of the Santa Clarita Valley Center for Photography. Located in the heart of Santa Clarita, less than an hour north of downtown Los Angeles, and minutes from the San Fernando Valley, the Center brings a new creative resource to the area, offering photography workshops, Photoshop classes, studio and equipment rental, and gallery, office and meeting space.

The Center opened for business on June 26, and has already offered its first workshop. It celebrates its grand opening with a party on Saturday, July 25, at 6pm.

Saying the motto of the Center is, “A Place to Discover and Create,” co-owner Mel Carll adds, “I didn’t want this to be just another anonymous warehouse for photographers to rent hourly,” he said. “I wanted to create a community space where local photographers could both explore their art and develop the business side, too, if they want to.”

Co-owner Karen Carll said one reason for opening the Center was to share her personal passion for photography with others. “I’ve had such great experiences, captured beautiful images, and met so many great people since I started with digital photography,” she said, “and now I get to share all of that with the community.”

The Carlls both serve on the board of the Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association. Mel Carll is also involved with the City of Santa Clarita’s 661 Arts Association, whose goal is to bring art to the community.

The Center occupies approximately 3,500 square feet near the intersection of Copper Hill Dr. and Newhall Ranch Rd. In addition to two-story-high ceilings and a large shooting space, it holds offices and a classroom. Workshops will be taught by local and regional photographers and artists, including Ted Dayton, David Saffir, Tony Zinnanti, David Green and others.

The grand opening party on July 25 is open to the public. Guests will have an opportunity to tour the space, meet the instructors, register for classes and view the current gallery exhibit. Refreshments will be served.

The Santa Clarita Valley Center for Photography is located at 28368 Constellation Road, Suite 340, Santa Clarita, CA 91355. For more information, directions and a workshop schedule, call (661) 904-2092, email info@scvphotocenter.com, or visit the website at www.scvphotocenter.com.
