Summer Acting Program Has International Flair

New York, NY, July 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- John Strasberg Studios (JSS) and Accidental Repertory Theater (ART) kicked off their first summer acting program this week, presenting classes in acting technique, voice, and movement to students from around the world.

“It’s something I wanted to do for myself,” said actor and acting teacher Suzanne Lantagne, who hails from Montreal. “I work a lot, I teach a lot, but I wanted to get back in touch with the actor in me,” she added. Lantagne learned of the JSS/ART program from a former student of hers who had also studied with John Strasberg, founder of JSS and ART’s Artistic Director.

“We’d like the summer program to lead into training programs that we can offer on an ongoing basis,” Strasberg said recently. “I’ve always liked the idea of training programs in conjunction with theater companies,” he added. “I’ve worked with several of the instructors for many years, and others have been with us since ART was founded a few years ago. There’s a natural synergy that develops between an active theater company and the training program that’s good for both.”

In addition to Canada, students hail from France, Italy, and the Caribbean.

“I was first introduced to John Strasberg’s approach when I studied with one of his students,” said Anastasia Unterner, also from Montreal. “His way of working put me in touch with my feelings in a way that I had not experienced before, and helped me tap into them in my acting in an organic way.”

The JSS/ART program is based on The Organic Creative Process – an intuitive process that John Strasberg discovered, which helps an actor live spontaneously within the context of a character and a play. All the classes and teachers are dedicated to developing each actor's individual creative process

The JSS/ART program overlaps with Strasberg’s private Intensive Workshop, also held at John Strasberg Studios. Students in the JSS/ART program may audit up to fifteen hours of the Intensive Workshop. In addition to course work found in a traditional conservatory setting, the JSS/ART program offers classes in script analysis, preparation, and auditioning. The program will run through August 8.
