Hathaway Goes Green with Solar Power

Atlanta, GA, July 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The project, named Ansley at Princeton Lakes Apartments, will consist of 306 market-rate apartment units. It will feature 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units, a resort style pool, an energy efficient clubhouse and other attractive amenities. The clubhouse, which was completed in May 2009, was built with attention to saving energy by utilizing a solar paneled roof.

In Hathaway’s efforts to help reduce the world’s carbon footprint, the company has chosen to construct the clubhouse roof with eighteen, 175-watt Solar World panels which were installed by the Georgia Solar Power Company. By adding solar energy or a PV (photovolactic) system, the clubhouse can generate its own electricity. The sunlight that is captured is a DC current which is then converted by an inverter to an AC, alternating current, which is the kind of electricity found in a home or business. With a PV system in place, 100% of the AC electricity created flows into a solar meter which then flows back to Georgia Power in the form of electricity. On average Hathaway pays $.09 per kilowatt for electricity provided by Georgia Power, however with the solar panels in place Hathaway gets a credit of $.18 per kilowatt from the solar energy produced. In addition to the benefits to Hathaway, solar electricity is good for the environment and saves money on energy in the long run.
