Atlanta, GA, July 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Creative studio Canister (www.canisterco.com) is publishing a nationally-recognized 2009 release of “Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis” to incorporate new research, professional feedback, recent developments in prenatal testing, and, most notably, a Spanish translation.

Canister, a studio that has produced international design for over a decade, is offering a uniquely specialized, high quality Spanish translation alongside the English text to give medical professionals reliable information about a Down syndrome diagnosis for patients whose native language is Spanish.

Moreover, the Canister books have been selected by a panel of distinguished professional advisers as a national interim gold standard publication for The Joseph P. Kennedy grant given to the National Down Syndrome Congress and the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) First Call program.

Canister is currently negotiating a pilot program with NDSS to distribute a limited number of books for local Down syndrome affiliates and medical groups. The distribution is made possible through a donation by Canister and funding by the Joseph P. Kennedy foundation. In addition, Canister will also offer a discount for NDSS affiliates for an introductory period. On August 7, Canister will begin accepting pre-orders, as well as sign-ups for the initial distribution, at canisterbooks.com.

Currently, over one hundred Down syndrome organizations, women’s centers, and medical professionals possess and distribute the 2008 release of the Canister materials. Canister also donated thousands of dollars worth of books this past year to the national conferences for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), and Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action (DSAIA).

Amy Allison, Executive Director of the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City and founder of DSAIA, says, “The booklets from Canister are professional, high quality materials that I can use to reach out to medical professionals and help them provide reliable information to parents who need to learn more about a Down syndrome diagnosis. I appreciate that national organizations are endorsing these books, and I am thrilled that the materials are also be available in Spanish to help even more parents.”

Canister routinely donates time and services to worthy charitable efforts such as the Russian translation of "Babies with Down Syndrome;" Rose Pedal (www.rosepedal.org), a charity bicycle ride for cystic fibrosis research; Seeking Clear Margins, a book about breast cancer; and the Canister Down Syndrome Prenatal Outreach Program, a program for prenatal parent support, available as a free download from the Canister site.
