Biloxi, MS, July 30, 2009 --(
PR.com)-- Serving the community is of paramount importance to Kara Creel, a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi's School of Pharmacy. Creel believes she can better serve those she terms her "patients" in a smaller independent pharmacy than in a big-box or chain pharmacy.
For that reason Creel, who earned the Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Ole Miss, decided to go to work as full-time pharmacist at Calvert's Pharmacy in Biloxi, Miss. Calvert's, formerly Calvert & Gamble, is an independent pharmacy that has served the Biloxi community since 1962.
"It's bringing it back to basics," Creel said. "I can offer personalized service and I am able to do more by getting to know my patients, not usually possible in a chain pharmacy."
Creel also attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gautier for her pre-pharmacy education, graduating with special honors.
Creel will do full pharmaceutical compounding and she also is expanding Calvert's offerings to include such preventive services as blood pressure and blood glucose screening. Certified in pharmacy-based immunizations, Creel plans in the future to provide flu, pneumonia, and vitamin B12 shots at Calvert's. Previously, Creel was a certified pharmacist technician at the former Hurley Discount Drugs, another independent pharmacy in Hurley, Miss., where she lives.
Calvert's Pharmacy is located at 2561 Pass Road in Biloxi, just east of Keesler Federal Credit Union and directly across from Peoples Bank. Hours are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Telephone is (228) 388-1411.
