Artist Joshua Barber Brings His Modern Icons to London, Bristol and Sydney

Joshua Barber, painter of modern icons, will be showing his newest work in three galleries in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Richmond, VA, August 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In the month of August, he will show in the Knifesmith Gallery on the famous Christmas Steps in Bristol, England, followed by a two-week appearance at The Brick Lane Gallery in London. Barber’s work is also scheduled to be shown this fall at the blank_space gallery in Sydney, Australia.

Two years in the making, Barber’s latest collection is vibrant and darkly humorous. The titles of his works are as memorable as the images themselves: “Officer, the crack in the backpack is obviously his”; “They put 100 holes in my horse and dang she kept on going”; and “I fell in love with a fish and named it you.”

Barber paints moments – the microcosms of memory that seem so trivial but over time, resound. “Just as ancient icons sought to solidify the eternal, my icons capture the briefest of human encounters,” Barber says. “Basically, I’m interested in the good bits.”

Barber has shown pieces in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ “Art After Hours” and in other shows in Richmond, New York, Los Angeles and Bristol. In early October, he will host a show in his native Richmond in conjunction with his father, noted maritime artist John Barber at Gallery 5800.
