Kerr Drug Introduces Free Translation Service in 11 Charleston

Local pharmacy chain provides safe, convenient healthcare services to Spanish speaking patients.

Raleigh, NC, September 11, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Kerr Drug Inc., the pharmacy chain pioneering "community pharmacy care" in their more than 100 retail locations across the Carolinas, today announced that the company will provide free Spanish-to-English translation services in its 11 Charleston area pharmacies.

Available through in-store telephone-based technology, this new service will facilitate regular communication among Kerr Drug registered pharmacists and Spanish speaking patients. By dialing 1-800 number, pharmacists and Spanish speaking patients can be instantly connected to a translator and carry on interactive conversations regarding OTC and prescription medications, as well as other health-related issues. This free service will also be available for Spanish speaking patients taking advantage of Kerr Drug’s full range of clinical services and educational programs, including cholesterol screenings, blood pressure checks, flu vaccinations and skin cancer screenings, to name just a few.

“By overcoming language barriers in the pharmacy, Kerr Drug is uniquely positioned to better serve the thriving Hispanic and Latino community in the Charleston market,” commented Anthony Civello, president and CEO of Kerr Drug, Inc. “We are proud to be facilitating crucial interaction between this often underserved population and our nationally recognized staff of registered pharmacists and healthcare professionals in a comfortable and convenient environment.”

“It is critical that all members of our community have access to information and resources that help them make the best decisions possible regarding their healthcare,” said Tom Baster of Hands on Health – South Carolina. “By offering free translation in its pharmacies, Kerr Drug is certainly providing an invaluable and much needed resource to Charleston’s Spanish speaking community.” Hands on Health – South Carolina (http://www.handsonhealth-sc.org) is a project of the Library at the Medical University of South Carolina with the goal of promoting healthier citizens and healthier communities in the state of South Carolina.
