Missionary Kid Turned Musician to Perform at the Troubadour

Indie-pop artist will perform at the Troubadour with national touring act Blueskyreality on Sept. 4, 2009.

Santa Monica, CA, August 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Los Angeles-based, indie-pop artist Amy Kuney will open for Universal/Motown’s upcoming act, Blueskyreality, at the Troubadour on Friday, Sept. 4, said manager Reese Lasher.

The show marks Kuney’s second performance at The Troubadour this year. She made her debut at the venue in July when opening for indie super-group, The Rescues, said Lasher.

Originally from Tulsa, Okla., Kuney moved to Honduras with her family to do missionary work as a teen after her father realized the devastation of Hurricane Mitch. Four years later on a sightseeing trip, Kuney and a group of friends were kidnapped by Guatemalan rebels. The harrowing experience focused Kuney’s songwriting, said Lasher.

“I built a studio in my basement using shower curtains and mattresses and just put everything into my writing,” Kuney said. “I sent a recording of a song to a producer in Los Angeles and haven been pursuing music ever since.”

Signed to Spin Move Records, Kuney released her debut album, “Bird’s Eye View,” last August. Over the past year, Kuney has played sold-out shows at Hotel Café, performed with Damien Rice, and toured with One Tree Hill actress and Myspace Records’ artist Kate Voegele.

Spin Move Records is an independent record label based in Santa Monica. Its roster includes Kuney and hip-hop artist, James Jr.

The Troubadour is located at 9081 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood, Calif. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Also performing is The Harm.
