Sustainable Art: Creating Estuaries of Beauty
First International Arts Movement Denver event features internationally renown painter and author, Makoto Fujimura
Denver, CO, August 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- This Friday, The Bryce Boyer Studio in Denver will become a breeding ground for beauty. Sustainable Art: Creating Estuaries of Beauty is an evening of poetry, art, panel discussion, and a lecture from internationally renown painter and author Makoto Fujimura. The free evening begins at 6:00 p.m. and is the first of what will be quarterly gatherings of International Arts Movement's Denver outpost, simply called "IAM Denver." IAM Denver will be led by Caleb Seeling, editor and founder of Samisdat Creative Services.
International Arts Movement gathers artists and creative catalysts to wrestle with the deep questions of art, faith and humanity. Founded in 1991 by Fujimura, IAM's global leadership is in New York City, but the movement involves people worldwide. IAM Denver serves the artistic and creative community of central Colorado, celebrating the best of Colorado's art and culture scene, while connecting artists here to the global IAM movement and the resources of creative catalysts across the globe.
Sustainable Art: Creating Estuaries of Beauty is the first of a quarterly gathering that will feature local, regional, and international artists, creative catalysts, and patrons in addition to smaller groups that will meet and work around the city. These gatherings will offer creative people of all stripes an evening of music, poetry, and art, as well as a chance meet others and discover International Arts Movement. According to Caleb Seeling, IAM Denver's organizer, the group aims to nurture art and creativity in all sectors of society, to rehumanize areas that have been dehumanized, and ultimately to create the world that ought to be.
In addition to Makoto Fujimura, this Friday's event will feature Denver-based photographer Bryce Boyer, poet and musician David Rothman, and composer, D.J. and producer Luke Atencio.
Sustainable Art: Creativing Estuaries of Beauty takes place this Friday, August 28, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The free event is at the Bryce Boyer studio, 3845 Lipan Street Denver, Colorado 80211. An RSVP to Caleb Seeling (caleb.seeling@gmail.com) is encouraged but not required.

About the Featured Artists:
Japanese-American painter Makoto Fujimura fuses ancient Nihonga traditional techniques with modern influences. Known for his attention to and celebration of beauty, Fujimura’s work is represented by Valerie Dillon at Dillon Gallery (www.dillongallery.com). A former National Council on the Arts member (2003-2009), Fujimura founded International Arts Movement, a non-profit global arts organization, in 1991. Books include Refractions: A Journey of Faith, Art and Culture (NavPress, 2009) and River Grace (International Arts Movement, 2007), and public collections include Saint Louis Museum, Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, and Time Warner/AOL/CNN building in Hong Kong. David J. Rothman co-founded and served as the first Executive Director of the Crested Butte Music Festival. He has also served as Executive Director of the Robinson Jeffers Association and is the founding Publisher and Editor of Conundrum Press, a small press devoted to writers of the west, especially poets. He has written three books of poetry, Dominion of Shadow (1996), The Elephant’s Chiropractor (1998), which was a finalist for the 1999 Colorado Book Award, and Beauty at Night (2002), and he is the editor of The Geography of Hope: Poets of Colorado’s Western Slope. His poems have appeared in Agni, Appalachia, The Atlantic, The Gettysburg Review, The Kenyon Review, The Literary Review, Mountain Gazette, Poetry, and other journals.
