Individual World Poetry Slam Announces “Last Chance” Event in Berkeley

iWPS to give away slot in upcoming event through open competition. Winner will have all fees waived.

San Jose, CA, September 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Individual World Poetry Slam, a Poetry Slam Inc. event, announces the “Legendary Last Chance Slam” on October 7th as part of their event schedule. The Legendary Last Chance Slam is a tradition carried on by the host cities for iWPS every year. This slam will consist of an open competition for poets to gain a coveted slot in the iWPS competition. The winning poet in this competition will have their entry fees paid, and will represent Fairfield California’s Life Sentence Slam. The Legendary Last Chance Slam will be held at local Berkeley poetry slam venue, the Starry Plough, which has become a land mark in the poetry slam community over the years for its consistently large boisterous audiences.

“While this competition is not part of the iWPS event itself, it has become one of the staples of iWPS” says Charles Ellik, Event Director for iWPS and Berkeley Poetry Slam Slammaster. The show will give entry priority to out-of-town poets who either could not pay their individual entry, or whose venues were not sending a representative. The Legendary Last Chance Slam will consist of a four round “Indie” styled slam, in which poets will recite a four, three, two, and one minute poem. After each poem, the poet will be judged by five randomly selected audience members on a 1.0 to 10.0 scale. The highest scoring poets will move on to the next round. At the end of all four rounds, one poet will be crowned the “legendary Last Chance Slam Champion” and will go on to compete in the iWPS even held from October 8th -11th.
