Vitronic’s VICAM-mobile a Success

Gedling, United Kingdom, September 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Vitronic, leading supplier of camera systems for warehousing and logistics, reports its VICAM-mobile portable handheld camera scanner is a big hit with customers. The device facilitates quick, accurate parcel routing by identifying customer related data on parcel labels. It weighs just 800g and features an ergonomic design, allowing operators to work comfortably.

Malcolm Smith, UK Sales Manager at Vitronic, is positive; “We have had significant interest in the handheld VICAM-mobile since its release last year. This is set to continue throughout 2009 – I am already dealing with a number of enquiries! VICAM-mobile’s portability makes it flexible, and ideal for scanning irregularly shaped parcels that are normally difficult to process, such as bicycles, tyres, and automobile components.”

VICAM-mobile uses a high-speed, variable-focus camera to capture images of parcel labels. The system interprets these using optical character recognition (OCR) techniques and powerful computer algorithms. This allows VICAM-mobile to read barcodes, 2D codes, damaged or marked codes, handwritten address information, and supplier numbers. Companies use data acquired by VICAM-mobile to sort and track parcels, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.

The handheld VICAM-mobile operates up to twenty times faster than traditional laser scanners. When combined with videocoding, a facility that allows the manual input of unreadable labels, it produces read rates of 99.9%. This reduces manual intervention, allowing parcel handlers to increase working efficiency and lower costs.

VICAM-mobile is compact, cost effective and easy to integrate into existing parcel handling systems. Its rugged durability makes it suitable for use in warehouses and other industrial environments.
