Charleston, SC, September 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Yo-ho-ho, mateys! What's a pirate's favorite kind of cookie? Ships ahoy. If you are fascinated with the life and ways of the pirate, then today be yer lucky day. Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19th! If you just can’t get enough of those men o’ the sea and their swashbucklin’ ways, then join Sylvan Dell Publishing in celebrating this international holiday.

On Saturday, September 19th, unleash your inner sea dog with some of the most common pirate phrases. Since 1995, Talk Like a Pirate Day has given pirate enthusiasts around the world the opportunity to replace “Hello!” with “Ahoy!”, “I agree!” with “Aye!”, and a friendly greeting with “Ahoy me hearties!” Founded in Albany, Oregon, by John Baur and Mark Summers, this holiday will be celebrated around the globe, from a costume contest and school play in Istanbul to a charity beach party in the Lesser Antilles. Pirates for Parkinson’s, an organization born from this holiday, is even hosting charity walks around the world to raise money for a good cause.

This year, take advantage of this holiday and introduce your children to the pirate’s domain—America’s coastlines and waterways—with Lucy Nolan’s fall release, Mother Osprey: Nursery Rhymes for Buoys and Gulls. The creative and colorful illustrations by Connie McLennan take children on an adventure through the retelling of traditional nursery rhymes with an oceanic twist. In the poem, Two Skippers from Texas, live through a shipwreck as two captains go head to head. Attempt to survive a horrifying winter storm in the middle of the ocean beset by a witch in The Witch of November, 1913. You’ll even get to travel from Biscayne Bay to the Everglades to the Florida Keys, all the while dodging alligators and sharks and teaching pirates to mind their manners in Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Get lost in the journeys this book offers while using Talk Like a Pirate Day 2009 as an opportunity to educate children about the importance and charm of America’s waterways.
