HobNobMurfreesboro Announces MTMC Illustrates Coronary Heart Disease from Their New Artery Explorer Interactive Exhibit

Murfreesboro, TN, September 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- HobNobMurfreesboro.com has recently partnered up with the Middle Tennessee Medical Center which is set to launch in October of 2010. This partnership is designed to help promote the awareness of the medical community and its advances in Murfreesboro, TN.

Saint Thomas Heart at Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) is hosting the Artery Explorer, a mobile, interactive cardiac exhibit equaling the size of an 18-wheeler that takes participants on a journey through the arteries, which can be affected by the build-up of plaque and lead to heart attack, stroke or coronary heart disease or other cardiovascular diseases.

Coronary heart disease afflicts more than 1.2 million Americans each year and is the leading cause of death in the United States. Stroke affects more than 700,000 people each year.

The Artery Explorer will be at MTMC on Sept. 25 from 8a.m. to 4 p.m. located in the back of the hospital visitor parking lot on Highland. The exhibit is open to the public and free.

The multi-sensory demonstration features computer-generated visuals to vividly illustrate the causes, progress and effects of atherosclerosis, or build up of plaque in the arteries. A motion simulator twists and turns to emphasize narrowed and blocked arteries illustrated on a video screen. The demonstration also presents tips on how to decrease the risk factors for atherosclerosis – such as high blood pressure, LDL (bad) cholesterol, smoking, lack of exercise and unhealthy diet.

In addition to the interactive tour, free cardiac screenings will be available when the Artery Explorer is at MTMC on Sept. 25 from 7a.m. to 3p.m. in the Saint Thomas Heart physician’s office. The cardiac screening includes:

Blood Pressure Screening
Cholesterol Testing
Glucose Level Testing
Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculation
Stroke Risk Assessment
Berlin Sleep Apnea Questionnaire
Edinburgh Claudication Questionnaire and Ankle Brachial Index Test for Peripheral Vascular Disease
Metabolic Syndrome Screening
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm evaluation based on risk factors
Framingham Risk Score – Calculation of 10-year risk of heart attack or cardiac death

For the most accurate screening results, patients who want to be tested should refrain from eating or drinking for a period of six to eight hours prior to the screening. Free screening times are limited, so patients must RSVP by calling (615) 269-4545 or (800) 345-5016 to schedule an appointment.
