Multiple Circuits and Distances Welcome All Cyclists to Event Benefiting Make a Wish Foundation of Ala. and Ga.

The 2009 Ride for Wishes fundraiser is set for October 2-4 in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Ala.

Gulf Shores, AL, September 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- A wish costs $6,700. For a child living with a life-threatening medical condition, this average cost per wish granted is a small drop in the bucket compared to the laughs and ear-to-ear smiles generated by the Make a Wish Foundation. As more than 100 wishes are waiting to be granted in Alabama alone, officials from this foundation are gearing up for the 2009 Ride for Wishes, which is set for October 2nd through 4th in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Ala.

This Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission event is a two-day cycling event that features a course for every skill level. On Saturday and Sunday, participants may ride in either the metric century (100 km/62 miles), the 50 mile out and back or the 17 mile family fun loop. Sunday’s events also feature a century (100 mile) ride. These cyclists will hit the pavement for a variety of scenic courses on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Other weekend activities – all of which will be held at The Wharf – include a welcome reception and registration on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a participants’ dinner on Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

All money generated from the $30.00 per cyclist registration fee will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama. Donations and registration may be completed online at www.rideforwishes.org.

This foundation grants wishes to children, ages 2 ½ to 18 years old, with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Throughout the United States, over 180,000 wishes have been granted since 1980, and over 4,000 in Georgia and Alabama since 1995.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission will welcome these upcoming events: 2009 Shrimp Festival Volleyball Invitational (October 9-10), USSSA Gulf Coast Baseball Championship (October 10-11), IFA Redfish Tour Gulf Division Fishing Tournament (October 17) and the USTA Southern Combo Doubles Senior/Super Senior (October 22-25).
