Davies Turner’s Offers Daily 48-Hour Groupage Services Throughout Germany

Despite the severe economic downturn affecting traffic volumes in Europe, Davies Turner – Britain & Ireland’s leading independent forwarder - continues to make strategic improvements to its E.U. trailer services.

Dartford, United Kingdom, September 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Comments Philip Stephenson, Davies Turner’s joint managing director: “As Germany continues to be one of our major markets in Europe, our strategy is to stay ahead of our competitors by enhancing our service levels there.

“Our daily 48-hour service is competing directly with the Courier and Express networks but at more cost-effective rates. This is one way we will maintain and increase our business.

“Another is to provide exactly what the client requires, including timed deliveries on request for the premium product. Most recently, this has resulted in our development of faster services from the UK to and from near European countries such as Benelux, as well as Germany, by connecting our five UK depots via Dartford to a main gateway in the countries concerned.

“As an active member of the System Alliance Europe grouping of top independent forwarders we also offer customers web-accessed cargo track and trace on a door-to-door basis. This facility compares with the best cargo tracking technology anywhere in the market. This is what our customers require, and what we have provided as standard.”

Philip Stephenson believes this strengthening of trailer services will help Davies Turner not only to see through the current business cycle, but will also have positive benefits for the forwarder’s clients as well.

Mr Stephenson says: “The payback on improving the transit times and frequency is obvious; goods still in transit incur added inventory cost and slow up a customer’s response to rapidly changing market conditions. Our ability to reduce transit and delivery times for clients means that the cargo reaches its destination earlier (the distributor, manufacturer or end-user), and the supplier or exporter receives payment that much sooner.

“There are many industry observers who are pointing to the dire state of the market for all overland operators and predicting a consequent shake-out in the market. At Davies Turner we are by contrast determined to use our continuing financial strength and development resource to improve our network further. We continue to benefit from being a multimodal, family-owned company so we can plan long term as well as dealing with immediate competitive pressures.”
