Qualtrax, Inc. Welcomes New Customer: Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab

Christiansburg, VA, October 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Qualtrax, Inc. recently welcomed Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab to its customer base. Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab is a regional crime lab located in Lake Charles, LA that serves five parishes, or counties, in its surrounding area. With over 30 years of experience, the lab specializes in control substances, blood alcohol, DNA, and fingerprinting.

Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab is accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) International. According to the ASCLD/LAB website, accreditation is earned when a lab demonstrates that “its management, operation, personnel, procedures, and instruments; physical plant and security; and personnel safety procedures meet certain standards.” One element of ASCLD/LAB International accreditation is compliance to ISO 17025 standards.

The continual increase of document volume drove Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab to shop around for a document control and workflow solution. The lab saw Qualtrax recommended on an industry forum and was impressed with what the product had to offer. “Qualtrax looked so user friendly,” commented Quality Assurance Manager, Lynell Benoit. “It offers so much more than document control. This software will help us streamline our processes and store everything we need in one central location.” In addition, the lab will have increased security over information that was previously visible to anyone with access to its network. “Documents can be impossible to find on our current server. In the forensics world everything has to be documented and most of the documents and forms we store have a required storage life of 25 years or greater.”

Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab will manage their quality and safety manuals, policies, procedures, and all document revisions in Qualtrax; it also plans to replace some of its current manual processes with electronic workflows. In addition to Qualtrax, the lab uses a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) package to manage evidence and technical, case information. “Each of the two software solutions serves a unique purpose,” states Benoit. “Our LIMS system handles evidence while Qualtrax will handle all our compliance procedures and documentation as required in the ISO 17025 standard. We’re looking to move everything into an electronic format from here on out.”
