North Haledon, NJ, October 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Ted Buczek has been selected as one of ten finalists in The Ultimate Volunteer Contest sponsored by ABC’s The View. The online contest recognizes nationwide extraordinary volunteer efforts and runs from Tuesday, October 6 to Sunday, October 11.

Residing now in North Haledon, NJ, Ted Buczek has dedicated his retirement years to building a safer and better community for the people of Washington Heights in New York. For over twenty years, the 83 year old WWII veteran has worked tirelessly on behalf of the NY Police Officer Michael Buczek Little League- procuring a run down, neglected garbage strewn park for a ball field for the youngsters, fostering relationships between the NYPD and neighborhood, and feeding the needy. His dogged determination has resulted in a thriving Little League that serves over 500 children ages 7-17. His lobbying of local and sate officials have resulted in a park the young ballplayers are proud to call home field.

All of these efforts resulted from the murder of his son, Police Officer Michael J. Buczek on October 18, 1988 in Washington Heights. While Buczek was consumed with grief, he wanted to continue his son’s efforts to make the community a safer place for the good citizens who lived there. Through the Police Officer Michael J. Buczek Foundation, the elder Buczek turned tragedy into triumph, and his son’s death into a catalyst for change.

Buczek, affectionately called Mr. B by the children of Washington Heights and public officials alike, is fond of saying “Everything I do, I do for the kids. I love the munchkins.”
