Raleigh, NC, October 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- North Carolina State University has been selected as one of the 21 schools throughout the nation to participate in the 2010 Honda Insight Marketing Competition. The students in Professor Claudia Kimbrough’s Integrated Marketing Communications class have created a working marketing agency, Red and White Concepts, responsible for researching, implementing and evaluating an integrated marketing campaign around the NC State campus and surrounding area. This year’s campaign is aimed at increasing awareness of and interest in the 2010 Honda Insight hybrid among the Generation Y market. At the end of the semester, all 21 campuses will be competing to present their creative ideas to a panel of Honda executives.

Red and White Concept’s will begin by conducting research to learn more about their target market, Generation Y. After analyzing the research findings, they will design a campaign aimed at reaching Generation Y and boosting excitement for the Insight. The campaign will be brought to life with a $2,500 budget provided by Honda. At the end of the semester, post-campaign research will be collected to determine the effectiveness of the campaign. Red and White Concepts will conclude the semester with a formal presentation to Honda executives summarizing the campaign’s results and successes.

“This campaign teaches students what it’s like to run a real life marketing agency and campaign for a highly publicized product. Not only does it teach everyone how to implement all of the marketing techniques that are learned in classes, but it gives them experience in all areas of business, from entrepreneurship to basic budgeting and finance. This is one of the best opportunities that these students have to gain real life experience in any NC State class,” Professor Kimbrough, Marketing Professor, stated. Neighboring schools include Meredith College, Duke University, Wake Forest University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With so many schools in proximity to one another around the Raleigh/Durham area, there is a plethora of the Generation Y market available for Red and White Concepts to research and analyze.

The distinctively styled, five-passenger, five-door Insight is powered by an Integrated Motor Assist™ (IMA™) system comprised of a 1.3-liter i-VTEC® gasoline engine and a 10-kilowatt electric motor. The Insight features the Ecological Drive Assist System (Eco Assist™) an innovation that can further enhance efficient vehicle operation while providing feedback related to individual driving styles.
