Information Technologists Company hosts Cybercrime and Forensics Workshop from where Digital Forensics Magazine reports on the success of the event. The workshop focused on emerging challenges that the City of London faces around the complex issue of cyber crime & forensics future strategies.

London, United Kingdom, October 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- A Cybercrime and Forensics Workshop, hosted by the Information Technologists Company (www.wcit.org.uk) and sponsored by Digital Forensics Magazine, was held at the Information Technologists Hall on the 12th October 2009. The ITC was granted livery status in 1992, becoming the 100th Livery Company of the City of London.

The ITC has over 650 members coming form all sectors of the ICT field and provides a neutral meeting ground for discussion of issues for the City of London. The Cybercrime and Forensics Workshop was arranged by the ITC Security Panel as the first in a series of workshops to explore the challenges of this emerging and complex area.

The limited invitation only event included representation from Government Departments, Industry including both vendors and forensic service providers, Senior Academics, Law Enforcement, Special Interest Groups and Commercial Training Organisations. The emphasis of the workshop was to explore ways that these groups can come together to solve the problems of this emerging profession.

Dr Steve Marsh from the Office of Cyber Security, provided an update on the work being carried out since the release of the Cyber Security Strategy of the United Kingdom with the Forensic Science Regulator, Andrew Rennison updating those present on his work to provide a standards framework for the field of forensics.

A contributor to the first edition of Digital Forensics Magazine, Dr Tim Watson from De Montfort University, looked in depth at the 83 undergraduate degree courses listed on the UCAS web site for forensic computing and the varying structure of these courses.

The workshop was deemed such a success that already follow up workshops are being planned by the ITC Security Panel to focus in on the subject areas and to bring together those that have the ability to influence and guide the profession for the future.
