International Students at Columbia Showcased Musical Talents

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, October 23, 2009 --(PR.com)-- At Columbia international College, one of the top boarding schools in Canada, vocal class students took the spotlight and showcased their musical talents at the Afternoon of “Music and Lyrics” (Oct 14th-15th).

It was an afternoon of melody, tunes and light laughter as students milled around the Café, eagerly anticipating the two-part, lunch hour Vocal Music Performance. It was an amazing transition from the quiet hallways to the Student Café. Excitement buzzed through the air as student craned to catch a glimpse of the performers.

The lunch hour vocal performances make up 7% of the students’ grades in vocal class, with an additional 15% geared towards a Christmas themed performance in December. Forty-three students performed over the lunch hour on two consecutive days. Song selections on both afternoons were as diverse as the student population that makes Columbia unique.

The aroma of pizza and freshly grilled burgers blended in perfectly with the music that filled the Café. Different displays of vocal prowess, stage presence and musical dexterity were met with cheers from the riveted audience. Breaking out on their electronic guitars, drums, piano and keyboards, there was a lot of talent.

Popular songs from the Mandarin, Korean and English music scenes came to life as student after student delivered their performance. The quality performances and thunderous applause were a testament to the students’ dedication and what one can only guess were countless hours spent in preparation.

Mr. Lawlis, (music teacher) was on site, managing the repertoire of songs with his hands on the soundboard and a proud smile on his face as he cheered his students on. It was a picture-perfect moment as the teacher-student rapport and cultural diversity that Columbia holds so dear came to fruition.
