One Stop Career System Students Prepared for Careers as Medical Administration Assistants

Charleston, SC, November 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Eighteen Trident One Stop Career System customers are now ready to begin new careers as medical administrative assistants after graduating from the Trident Workforce Investment Board’s Medical Administration Assistant Program offered through Trident Technical College’s continuing education department.

This certified course, which normally runs 18 months, is completed in 6 months. Students are required to attend class two days a week from 8:30am – 1:00 pm. About 60% of the class is online and the students are required to spend an estimated 10 hours a week on online assignments and quizzes. During the training, students complete 86 quizzes and exams, 50 spelling tests, 100 insurance claim exercises, 23 term papers, and 50-100 vital signs.

Graduates with this certification are prepared to seek jobs in medical practices, outpatient care facilities, and hospitals.

Vernessa Washington was recognized with achieving the highest academic average. Renne Aiken, Janice Palmer, and Cheryl Borden were recognized with perfect attendance.

Dan Grigg, Workforce Specialist closed the graduation with his congratulations, “It was my great pleasure to work with all of you. You all came to the One Stop to increase your employability through training and overcame may hurdles to get to this point. The next step is to work together to gain employment.”

Students that are eligible for the program receive training at no cost by the Trident Workforce Investment Board with funding from Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

The mission of the Trident Workforce Investment Board (TWIB) is to develop the region’s workforce by providing high quality workforce development programs and services to its customers. To accomplish this mission, it created a market driven and user-friendly workforce system investing workforce funding to recruit, prepare, and train workers with the skills needed to support existing industry and attract new industry to the tri-county region.

The TWIB provides funding for the Trident One Stop Career System. The Trident One Stop Career System is a nationally recognized workforce development system staffed by some of the best trained workforce professionals in the nation. The Trident One Stop Career Center is located at 1930 Hanahan Road in North Charleston. Satellite Centers are located in Moncks Corner, Summerville and Charleston.
