Hearts for a Cure Cruise 2006

Cruise New York for charitable event. Melanoma Research Foundation raises money for cure.

Union City, NJ, October 04, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Tradition lives on… this year’s award celebration was held during The Day Spa Association & The International Medical Spa Association’s charity event which was part of the official program of the Spa & Resort / Medical Spa Expo - NYC, on September 17th on board the SS/Temptress cruising the Hudson River via the Statue of Liberty and gazing at the New York and New Jersey skylines.

Members of the DSA Events Committee gathered the crème de la crème of the day spa and medical spa industries to attend, including many of the Advisory Board member of both organizations, as well as Edward Wong of Esthétique de Suisse Health & Beauty Spa who came all the way from Singapore to discuss the establishment of a DSA/IMSA Asian Chapter.

Present also were many of their sponsors whose generosity made this event possible. Among the activities during on the yacht was a raffle benefitting Melanoma Research Foundation and snowflake pendants supporting UNIQUELY-U were available for purchase. “Goodie bags” filled with valuable gifts from our sponsors were given to each guest upon departure! The weather could not have been better, food and service were superb, the DJ kept everyone happy, but most of all we were able to introduce SpaCare, Organized Charitable Giving. The first awards under the auspices of SpaCare were given out this year honoring those individuals who have shown compassion and ingenuity to help others in need (and have followed our call to enter this competition).

“We are grateful for all the support we received and the enthusiasm the industry has shown in our efforts to create a vehicle to help and give in the name of the spa industry”, says Hannelore Leavy, Executive Director of the Day Spa and International Medical Spa Association, filling in for Linda Brewer, Executive Director for SpaCare. “We received quite a number of entries from members of the DSA + IMSA. The choice faced by our committee members to select the winners was difficult and the race was close”.

Rosemary and the Brass Rose participated in many community fund raising projects, with many of them of them held at the spa, including one for fire fighters. In addition to those activities, the spa itself contributed more than $5000.00 last year to various charities.

As in the previous year, this year’s award celebration was a fund raising effort on behalf of the Melanoma Research Foundation. “We thank Bill Marsch of the Foundation for conducting the raffle and he reports that $550.00 was raised on behalf of MRF”, says Hannelore Leavy. “The spa industry has the exceptional opportunity to save many lives through early detection of Melanoma. All of us can really make a difference in many people’s lives by learning the early signs of this often deadly disease!” Together with Skin Inc. the IMSA has developed an educational poster, which can be obtained through the http://www.medicalspaassociation.org/resources.htm.
