Vision Source is First in Las Vegas to Offer High Definition Imaging Technology

Vision Source Las Vegas office can now identify early stage glaucoma and retinal diseases using the new Cirrus HD-OCT.

Las Vegas, NV, November 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Vision Source Las Vegas is proud to announce that its Centennial Hills office, Advanced Eyecare, is the first and only eye care practice in Las Vegas to treat patients using the Cirrus HD-OCT (high definition-optical coherence tomography) system from Carl Zeiss Meditec. The technology enables optometrists, Dr. Brian Miller and Dr. Mark Miller to diagnose diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy more accurately and at an early stage, when treatment can be most effective. The instrument also enables these local optometrists to monitor their patients more accurately and to measure the success of treatment with segmented, high-definition, three-dimensional maps of the eye.

This is good news for Las Vegas residents since the Nevada State Health Division reports that 8 percent of the state’s population - some 217,467 adults - have been diagnosed with diabetes. Nearly 50 percent of these people will be affected at some stage by diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of blindness. As well, glaucoma, the number one cause of blindness among African-Americans,[i] has no symptoms and requires early detection for successful treatment. Seniors are most prone to age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in Americans over the age of 60,[ii] which also requires early detection.

“The Cirrus OCT is a technological breakthrough that captures incredible 3D and HD scans of the retina. These pictures are clearer than anything we’ve seen before and allow us to analyze the optic nerve more effectively,” explains Dr. Brian Miller. “We can evaluate and monitor the detailed anatomy of the retina, - the part of the eye that responds to light - by using the high definition image. We’re able to design the most effective treatment plans for patients, which will result in the preservation of a patient’s vision.”

The Cirrus HD-OCT is the latest addition to the family of imaging devices manufactured by the Dublin California-based Carl Zeiss Meditec, a leader in ophthalmic devices and surgical systems. The Cirrus HD-OCT has achieved extensive acceptance in the ophthalmic industry since its FDA clearance in early 2009.

“This is a huge leap forward in imaging and significantly increases our ability to gauge whether patients are responding adequately to therapy,” adds Dr. Mark Miller. “We are excited to provide this advanced service to our patients, and will continue to work toward providing the most technologically superior care to this community.”
