Edwards Named Membership Director at Old Corkscrew Golf Club

Estero, FL, December 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Two-time National Hockey League All-Star and Celebrity Players Tour member Don Edwards has joined the Old Corkscrew Golf Club team as membership director. In this role, he will be responsible for marketing and managing the membership program at the club, which features an 18-hole championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus, and is located east of I-75 in Estero. Old Corkscrew opened in 2007 and was recognized with three prestigious national honors, including Golf Digest’s Best New Courses; Golf magazine’s Best Courses Near You; and 2008 Florida Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owners Association.

“We’re exciting to bring someone with Don’s background, both on the green and the ice, to our team,” said Old Corkscrew General Manager Mark Iwinski. “His enthusiasm for great golf makes him a great fit with our membership and representative for the course.”

While Edwards is new to Old Corkscrew, he’s no stranger to the world of sports. Area hockey fans may recognize his name from the rosters of the Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs – the three teams he played for over his 12-year career as an NHL player, or from the Los Angeles Kings or Carolina Hurricanes, where he spent 10 years as an assistant coach. He is an Inductee to the City of Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame and Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame.

Don is also an avid golfer and member of the Celebrity Players Tour, on which he has won the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Celebrity Classic twice and Jamaica Celebrity Championship once.

About Old Corkscrew Golf Club
Old Corkscrew is a pure golf experience, with no residential development surrounding the course. It’s a Jack Nicklaus Signature design which is the highest standard offered by Nicklaus Design and includes Jack Nicklaus’ personal oversight and involvement in every step of the golf course design and construction. The Club is the only Signature Nicklaus Design non-residential course in Southwest Florida. The golf course is certified as a Signature Sanctuary by Audubon International.

The membership offering at Old Corkscrew is unlike that of traditional country clubs. It offers benefits that appeal to today’s golfer. Members choose the duration of their membership; one year, five year and ten year plans are available. There are no assessments, no annual dues, no minimums and tee times can be booked weeks in advance, not just a day or two. Membership plans range from $3,000 to $15,000 and daily fees are discounted according to the length of the membership.
