Rock Hill, SC, December 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- South Carolina Author Sam Morton Signs New Novel, Betrayed: From the Austin Files at The Book Rack in Rock Hill

On Saturday, December 5, from 1-3 p.m., Columbia author Sam Morton will sign copies of his new book Betrayed: From the Austin Files, Book One, at AuthorFest, an annual literary event at The Book Rack in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Morton, a Rock Hill native, is a 1981 graduate of Northwestern High School and 1985 graduate of The Citadel. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English.

Betrayed, from Quake, a division of Echelon Press, features Austin Pierce, whose father is a political consultant and whose best friend, Rico, is in the United States illegally. Together with Rico’s beautiful, tough-as-nails cousin, Veronica, the boys face off against a U.S. Senator with his own agenda and a rogue Mexican general who makes people trying to cross the border disappear. When Austin discovers Veronica helps people illegally cross the border from Mexico, he faces a decision: should he help his friends or try to stop the general? Either path could lead to danger, even death.

“Armed with a powerful story, stunning language, and a belief that right must triumph, Sam Morton weaves a tale of laughter, passion, and fury in Betrayed. Don’t miss a word. Sam is an author on the move,” says Pat Conroy, bestselling author of The Prince of Tides, Beach Music, and The Great Santini.

This is Morton’s second appearance at AuthorFest. His first, in 2006, featured his debut novel, Disavowed, which earned five-star ratings on both Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. The book was also published in two other countries. Sam is donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the Betrayed to the Austin Whetsell Memorial Fund. Whetsell died in 2007 at age 15 while serving on a mission trip to Mexico with his church.
