Comedy Central Star Receives Two Awards for New Solo Show

Comedian Jade Esteban Estrada gets kudos for his portrayal of Mary Cheney

New York, NY, October 11, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Comedy Central star Jade Esteban Estrada received two awards for his new solo production ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 3 at the Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival on September 15, 2006.

Estrada, who was in performance at Boise State University the night of the ceremony, received the award for Best Solo Performance and Best Original Music.

The star best known for his TV appearances on The Graham Norton Effect played Naomi of the Bible, King James, Bessie Smith, Greg Louganis and Mary Cheney.

The musical received special notice for Estrada's composition and performance of the song "Republican Princess," sung by the character Mary Cheney, daughter of Vice-President Dick Cheney. Outlook Weekly calls him, "one of the greatest solo theatre artist of the 21st century."

"I was glad to see the industry honor Jade for his latest solo premiere," said solo artist Jerry Rabushka who was awarded the festival's 2006 Director's Award.

Estrada received the 2004 Audience Favorite Award in Solo Performance at the 2004 Columbus Festival for the show ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2. He also received the 2005 Performance Artist of the Year recognition at the Pride in the Arts Awards last year.
