Palm Springs, CA, December 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour launches in Palm Springs area.

The Medal Play Golf Tour is ready to start up in the Palm Springs/ Inland Empire area under the direction of veteran tour director Blane Freytag. The tour, which provides amateurs the experience of competitive stroke-play golf, will host a 10 event local schedule that kicks of January 31st at The Golf Club at Terra Lago, home of the 1999 – 2002 LG Skins game and finish on September 11th - 12th with the Tour Championship at Indian Wells Golf Resort, current home of the LG Skins Game. Come play where the pro’s play.

“Now amateurs can play a tour just like the pros, without the travel,” said tour director Blane Freytag “Our events are held locally on weekends, perfect for the average golfer. Our goal is to provide fun, fair, competitive individual stroke play golf tournaments utilizing NET scoring (using your MPGT Tournament Handicap) to level the playing field. Everyone has an equal shot at winning in our tournaments.” The Medal Play Golf Tour is for amateurs of all ages and abilities. Members are placed in one of six (6) flights based on age and handicap. Flights are: A Flight (0-7.9 handicap), B Flight (8-15.9), C Flight (16+), D (Sr) Flight (0-7.9) E (Sr) Flight (8-15.9) and F (Sr) Flight (16+).

Tournament format is individual net stroke play, with USGA rules in effect. A software program and web page tracks each player’s tour handicap to ensure participants are placed in their proper flight. Player tour handicaps will be monitored throughout the season to field the most competitive flights possible. “We have a unique anti-sandbagging system to weed out the baggers” added Freytag.

At each event, the top golfers in all flights win Visa gift cards from the prize pool that is generated in each flight. All participants also earn points toward “Player of the Year” honors in their flight. A Fed Ex style playoff covering the final three events adds to the excitement.

Golfers may join the tour at any time for a $100 annual membership fee. Entry fees for the Medal Play Golf Tour are individually priced based on the venue and time of year. Those fees include green fees, shared use of a cart, range balls, prize pool, scoring and trophies. There will also be optional skins games and an optional par 3 cash pot at each event. Trophies will also be up for grabs for the winners of each flight. Results and points standings are posted within 72 hours at :(www.medalplaygolftour.com).

Come join them in the excitement and experience of tournament golf in a friendly and competitive atmosphere.
