The Orpheum Theatre Foxboro Presents the Boston Premiere of RENT

The Boston Premiere of RENT at the Orpheum Theatre Foxboro January 29-February 7.

Foxboro, MA, January 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Boheme, and written by Jonathan Larson, RENT is classified as a “rock opera.” It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side. It takes place in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS.

Narrator and filmmaker Marc Cohen (Eric Desnoyer, Cumberland, RI), and roommate Roger Davis (Kevin Hanley, Hopedale, MA), are freezing as their apartment building’s power has been turned off in ex-roommate Benjamin Coffin III’s (Chauncey Moore, Dorchester, MA), effort to turn Alphabet City from an artistic community into a virtual and technology based community. In the midst of the cold, Roger who has just come out of rehab is intrigued by neighbor Mimi Marquez (Jess Andra, Maynard, MA), whose influence over him could be good or bad. Another of Marc and Roger’s ex-roommates Maureen Johnson (Shayna Ross, North Chelmsford, MA), is hosting a protest performance with the help of her lawyer girlfriend Joanne Jefferson (Leeta White, Watertown, MA). After their other ex-roommate Tom Collins (Michael DiMascolo, Warwick, RI), loses his job as a professor or computer science, he finds love with Angel Dumott Schunard (Albert Jennings, Pawtucket, RI), a street drummer who strives to spread his surprising optimism amongst his friends and the rest of the cast: Bill Cunningham (Quincy, MA), Steve Dooner (South Weymouth, MA), Michael Evora (Cranston, RI), Crystal Ferdman (Foxboro, MA), Ryan Goodwin (Mansfield, MA), Liz Harmon (Salem, MA), Caroline Kautsire (Quincy, MA), Christine McCarthy (Quincy, MA), Sean Nolan (Cranston, RI), and Allison St. Rock (Providence, RI)

Larson’s dream was for this show to create awareness and action, and to remind people that there is “no day but today.” He died tragically and unexpectedly on the eve of RENT’s off Broadway debut. Although he never lived to see his dream come true, the show spent twelve years on Broadway and captured the hearts of audiences all over the world on tour. In 1996 RENT won the Pulitzer Prize for drama and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and took home four, including Best Musical.

Performances are January 29th-February 7th, Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm.

Tickets are $24 for Adults, $22 for Seniors/Students, and $18 for Children under 12.
