New Art Series Filmed Entirely on Location Debuts on DVD January 26

Kultur announces the DVD release of the first two episodes of the new ten-episode art series, The Great Epochs of European Art: The Art of the Ancient Greeks & The Art of the Romans. The DVD containing both episodes will be available on January 26, 2010 for a suggested retail price of $24.99.

The Art of the Ancient Greeks
The portrayal of humanity is the central theme of Greek art. The gods of the Greeks appear in human form. It is the human form that sets all standards. Even the Greek temple reflects human law and proportion. It is a three-dimensional work of art. Selected masterpieces of Greek sculpture cast light upon the three great Epochs - the Archaic period, the Classical period and Hellenism.

The Art of the Romans
Roman art is first and foremost architectural art, demonstrating the power and pretensions of a world power. The film shows the daring, innovative functional buildings constructed by Roman engineers and architects and their tremendous theatres, thermae and circus buildings. It also describes the role of the Emperor, his elevation by impressive portrayals of power, and the private world of the Romans, their luxury villas which became little enclaves of Greek civilization.
