San Francisco Filmmakers Austin Chu and Brian Chu Traveled to All 50 States to Film How the Recession is Affecting Everyday Americans

San Francisco, CA, January 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Independent filmmakers Austin and Brian Chu of San Francisco will be debuting their national documentary on the recession, entitled, ”The Recess Ends” online on Justin.tv, http://www.justin.tv/on January 17th at 8PM (EST), 5PM (PST). This national documentary has received press from numerous media outlets including CNN, USA Today and the Chicago Tribune.

The Director’s Cut will be shown on Justin.tv on January, 24th at 8 PM (EST), 5PM (PST). During the Director’s cut, the Filmmakers will allow viewers to engage with them and ask questions about the film—all while it is playing.

The Recess Ends film project is based on a five- month journey across the United States in search of personal stories about greatest economic meltdown since the Great Depression. Filmmakers Brian and Austin Chu, two everyday guys turned filmmakers decided to travel to all 50 states to capture the stories of average Americans during this economic crisis.

The filmmakers decided to make their national debut on the web rather then at a film festival because they wanted to reach a larger audience and because they say the film is more about telling America’s story then making money.

“The Recess Ends was never about making money, it’s about allowing people to see what our country is going through right now”, said head filmmaker Austin Chu. “We want people to see how the recession is affecting the entire country and how everyday people are dealing with this economic crisis. The stories we collected are simply amazing and show a snapshot of what our country is going through right now.”

Austin’s brother Brian Chu agreed and said, “We want as many people to see the film as possible—so they can see how some Americans are struggling, while others are re-prioritizing their lives and finding creative ways to get by.”

Austin also believes debuting their film on the web will allow the filmmakers to interact on a more personal level; as they will be interacting directly with fans and viewers during the Director’s cut.

About The Recess Ends: Austin Chu first came up with the idea of doing a documentary on the recession when he lost his job at the internet startup he worked for. Austin wanted to do something about what was going on and thought it would be great to travel the nation and tell the story of the biggest economic collapse that faces our country since the Great Depression. He felt the true story is not necessarily about the recession itself, but rather the great Americans who face it each and every day in their own unique way.
