IIMSAM Official Urged for Global Support in Fighting Malnutrition and World Hunger
IIMSAM Middle East Director & Goodwill Ambassador Dr. Naseer Homoud urged for unified global support for crusading against world hunger and malnutrition. He maintained that the target to make our world free of hunger and malnutrition cannot be achieved until and unless sincere and honest efforts are not channelized.
He advocates for his objective generating awareness across the globe vis-a-vis food crisis, malnutrition especially in third world countries, lack of food due to poverty, the problems in achieving food security and to forge an alliance against the scourge of hunger.
While expressing his deep concern over alarming rates of hunger which according the Food and Agriculture Organization, over 854 million people are suffering from hunger. The UN Development Programme records show that about 1.2 billion people in the developing world manages their survival on less than $ 1 a day. "This is sorry state of affairs that about 78% of the world population resides in these developing countries, where sufficient and nutrient food is not available to feed the populace” Dr. Homoud added.
While addressing the media about this agenda he urged that promise in the Millennium Development Goal to reduce hunger and poverty by half by the year 2015 can only be redeemed by serious thinking, planning and action. “When we look the other side, there are impending challenges for the mankind. The global challenge of climate change has to be kept in mind while formulating policies for countering the menace of global food crisis. The nature of crisis asks for global and concerted efforts on the part of world bodies, governments and civil society groups to tackle it. We have to address the lurking crisis of climate change keeping in consideration the global needs of food to usher in the era of global food security regime”.
While shedding light on his plan for year 2010 Dr. Homoud stressed on the need of a resolution from governments across the world to declare Spirulina as the best food for future as described by United Nations and to help the production and distribution of Spirulina to the hunger ridden people so that hunger and undernourishment can be eradicated. He outlined that this approach can only be effective if governments use their supply and distribution chain in this process. He further call upon the government, individuals and organizations to support IIMSAM which has undertaken several projects of production and distribution of Spirulina to the needy peoples under guidance of His Excellency Ambassador Remigio M. Maradona Director General of the IIMSAM in pursuit of its goal to make this world free of malnutrition.
