Award-Winning Lyonia Environmental Center at the Deltona Regional Library Complex Designed by Zev Cohen & Associates

The County of Volusia and the City of Deltona were awarded the Sustainability Award by the Florida Planning & Zoning Association, Surfcoast Chapter for the Lyonia Environmental Center at the Deltona Regional Library Complex. Zev Cohen & Associates, Inc. along with Rood & Zwick Architects designed this project as a “Green” site so it will receive a “LEED” Certificate.

Ormond Beach, FL, January 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Lyonia Environmental Center at the Deltona Regional Library Complex is a joint venture between the City of Deltona and Volusia County with funding assistance by ECHO. The project included expanding the existing library; building a 1,000 seat Amphitheater; and constructing a 4,000 sq.ft. Environmental Learning Center.

The library expansion and Lyonia Environmental Center are “Green” building projects. The County has applied for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council to certify the site and building as environmentally responsible and a healthy place to work. The landscaping incorporates Florida native plants and expansion of the library was designed along the guidelines of reducing energy use and minimizing the impact on the environment.

The Lyonia Environmental Center has been developed to encourage discovery and exploration of Volusia County’s ecosystems and foster community involvement in conservation efforts. Staff, including a Volusia County Schools teacher on assignment, will provide hands-on field and classroom and environmental experiences.

Zev Cohen & Associates, Inc. (ZCA) provided the civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the original Deltona Library, as well as for the expansion project, the amphitheater, and the Lyonia Environmental Center.

Zev Cohen & Associates, Inc. designed this project site as a “Green” site so it will receive a “LEED” Certificate.

ZCA coordinated closely with both Volusia County and the Fish and Wildlife Commission to ensure compliance with environmental concerns. ZCA provided a storm water design that utilized natural depressional areas which minimized both the construction cost and disturbance area.
