The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org Contribute $230,000 to IFAW's Effort in Haiti

Seattle, WA, February 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and The Animal Rescue Site have joined together to aid animals affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti. The cooperation between the two organizations is the latest example of a partnership that has delivered relief to vulnerable animals all over the world.

The Animal Rescue Site community has played an early and significant part in funding the response, contributing more than $230,000 to this mission. IFAW’s teams entered Haiti in January as part of the Animal Rescue Coalition for Haiti.

The Animal Rescue Site is an online shopping and community site (www.TheAnimalRescueSite.com) for people who want to help animals. IFAW is a non-profit organization that brings emergency care to animals around the world. When disaster strikes, the two groups spring to action, raising money to send food, medicine, and expertise directly to animals in need.

“The people who visit The Animal Rescue Site are passionate about helping animals. By partnering with IFAW we give our shoppers a simple but meaningful way to contribute directly to work that alleviates animal suffering,” said The Animal Rescue Site founder Tim Kunin.

The Animal Rescue Site and IFAW have worked together to save animals following bushfires in Australia, earthquakes in China, and floods in the United States. The partnership has supported hands-on care for orphan bears in Russia and orphan elephants in India. The Animal Rescue Site shoppers have helped underwrite veterinary care for cats and dogs in Johannesburg and for wildlife in Kenya.

“IFAW is truly grateful to The Animal Rescue Site, which, over and over again, enables us to help animals in crisis around the world. It’s not an exaggeration to say that much of what we do would not be possible without the generosity of The Animal Rescue Site and its visitors,” said Ian Robinson, IFAW’s Director of Emergency Relief.

The latest collaboration between IFAW and The Animal Rescue Site is the current relief mission in Haiti. IFAW and a coalition of animal groups are working to deliver aid to dogs and livestock affected by the devastating earthquake.

Coalition members are meeting with Haitian Government officials and the United Nations’ relief efforts to define the country’s most pressing animal needs. This will be a massive animal relief effort and the need will be great for a long time to come, according to IFAW.
