Dr. Holly Moriarty Named "Top Expert" in Sports Medicine

Dr. Holly Moriarty, DC - Owner of Haymarket Physical Therapy & Chiropractic - Named Sports Medicine “Top Expert” by Washingtonian Magazine.

Haymarket, VA, February 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Jared Neiters, semi-pro cyclist, was anxious to return to biking after an injury sidelined him two years ago. A visit to Haymarket Physical Therapy & Chiropractic (HPTC) in Gainesville, VA, put him back on track. After receiving a tailored comprehensive treatment plan from Dr. Holly Moriarty, Neiters notes he was “able to return to biking comfortably, which is my number one priority.”

Recognizing her extensive knowledge of sports medicine and on-going work with athletes of all levels, Dr. Holly Moriarty was recently voted by her peers as one of the Washington DC Metro’s Top Experts in Sports Medicine. Featured in the January 2010 issue of Washingtonian Magazine, sports medicine is a fast growing healthcare field focused on helping professional, elite and amateur athletes recover from injury, prevent future injuries and improve performance.

Trained in the Latest Treatments
As a Sports Chiropractor, avid golfer and equestrian, Dr. Moriarty “understands and appreciates the need for athletes to heal quickly without compromising the integrity of their bodies.” She is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner (CCSP) with a long-standing commitment to exploring the latest treatments in sports medicine. “ART (Active Release Techniques) is a soft tissue therapy that has become the gold standard to treat elite athletes,” explains Dr. Moriarty. “After I witnessed the effectiveness of this therapy first-hand, I pursued certification in ART, so I could share its many benefits with my patients.” Dr. Moriarty also has extensive experience in the use of KT Tape (kinesiology therapeutic tape) to treat a variety of sports injuries. She was selected this fall to demonstrate taping techniques at the Marine Corps Marathon Health and Fitness Expo and assist race participants in preparing for the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon.

Experience Treating Elite and Professional Athletes
This specialty in sports medicine has led Dr. Moriarty to successfully treat many elite and professional athletes in our area. This past year, she began working with senior swimmers on the Curl-Burke West swim team led by Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist Jeremy Linn. Her work includes evaluating the strength, flexibility and nutrition of this team of elite swimmers and suggesting changes to make them faster and less vulnerable to injury. “It’s a great advantage to our team,” according to Linn, “because her treatments allow our swimmers to practice at a higher level with fewer injuries which facilitates them getting faster and faster.” Haymarket Physical Therapy & Chiropractic also serves as Medical Team Coordinator for the Haymarket Senators baseball team (2009 AAA Valley League champions) and the Haymarket Bicycle Team (ranked #2 on the East Coast).

Olympic Gold Medalist Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, currently Chief of Sports Performance for USA Track and Field and an HPTC patient, points to Dr. Moriarty’s use of a multi-disciplinary approach to treating injury and chronic pain. Dr. Moriarty “combines sports chiropractic, physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, personal training, massage therapy and acupuncture all under one roof …She cross trains her staff and takes the best treatment practices from each discipline to create protocols that heal her patients quickly and keep them well longer. Dr. Moriarty strives to return athletes to their sport better, faster and stronger than prior to the injury.”

Assisting at the Olympic Training Center
Next up for Dr. Moriarty is a trip to the Olympic Training Center where she has been invited by the United States Olympic Committee to treat athletes this summer in either Colorado Springs, CO or Chula Vista, CA. “It is truly an honor to have been chosen to treat athletes at this level. I am extremely excited about my placement in the training center and look forward to the experience this summer,” says Dr. Moriarty.
