Wattpad Announces Contest Winners, Organizes Special Event for Haiti

Contest Winning Title Has Over a Million Reads; New Contest Aims to Help Earthquake Victims.

Toronto, Canada, February 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Wattpad - the world’s most popular ebook community – announces the winners of its hugely successful “Share What You Have Written” contest. The contest’s goal was to unlock everyone’s unpublished works. The contest had thousands of submissions, making it one of the most successful writing contests in cyberspace.

Abigail Gibbs (pen name Canse12), a 15 year-old student from England, is the first place winner. The winning title, “Dinner with a vampire. Did I mention I'm vegetarian?” had over 1,000,000 reads and over 20,000 votes. Two other finalists, “Destined To Happen” by lovemehunni and “Bye Bye Virginity” by Just-Krissy, were both from Canada. Each of the finalists generated over 600,000 reads. All three titles became instant Internet sensations.

“The joy of writing should be accessible to everyone,” said Abigail Gibbs. “Wattpad has helped lesser known writers like me to find millions of passionate readers craving for our work. Wattpad is the best social network to help writers market themselves.”

After wrapping up the “Share What You Have Written” Contest, Wattpad has organized a special "Write for Haiti - Lend a Helping Hand" Contest to help those struck by the earthquake. The Wattpad Team has already contributed C$500 to UNICEF CANADA and the Government of Canada has matched it for a total of C$1,000. If the contest gets more than 3,000 entries, Wattpad will double the donated amount. If the contest gets more than 6,000 entries the amount will be tripled. Contest deadline April 30, 2010.
