Colorado Author to Focus on Animal Rescue Issues During Book Signing

Author Dawn Kairns plans to discuss issues affecting animals at her upcoming book signing for "MAGGIE the dog who changed my life" at Paragraph's Books, South Padre Island, TX. Her talk will include Black Dog Syndrome, the horrors of puppy mills, and other issues affecting animals along with a reading from her book and a discussion of "MAGGIE."

Boulder, CO, February 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dawn Kairns, the Boulder, CO author of Maggie: The Dog Who Changed My Life, will be signing her book at Paragraph's Bookstore this Thursday, February 11 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on South Padre Island, TX.

According to Rocky Mountain Tails Magazine, '"MAGGIE" raises questions about life and beliefs and demonstrates the canine ability to sense human thoughts and feelings, weaving the two species together in a tight bond. Kairns has not only written a pet memoir, but one that aims to bring the reader to a higher level of thinking about our four-legged friends...'

In Maggie: The Dog Who Changed My Life, the author's black lab, Maggie, helps Kairns find her place in the world, both personally and professionally. Through their relationship Kairns learns that dogs are intelligent, emotional beings that can sense our thoughts. "My book explores a deeper, spiritual side of the human-canine bond," says the author, "including animal telepathy, and the importance of trusting our intuition and dream messages."

"My time with Maggie also awakened me to the myriad of issues that adversely affect animals. For example, millions of dogs and cats are euthanized each year simply because they do not have homes and people don't spay and neuter their pets." Kairns plans to discuss this along with Black Dog Syndrome and the horrors of puppy mills with those attending her 6 p.m. event at Paragraph's Books.

"Animals are such gifts to us and the human-animal bond can be such a powerful part of our lives," says Kairns. Her hope is that the love from her deep bond with Maggie will speak to readers and open their minds to possibilities with their canine friends they may not have considered before. Kairns also hopes to support those experiencing pet loss.

Dawn has donated portions of book proceeds and books to humane societies and animal rescue groups. She donates of 10% of her publisher royalties from her book to Mainline Animal Rescue (MLAR) in PA. MLAR is devoted to raising awareness of the conditions in puppy mills and rescuing their canine victims, a passionate cause the author believes in.
