POSExpress v3.0 Now PA-DSS Validated by Payment Card Industry

POSExpress, the point-of-sale software developed and distributed by POS Prophet Systems has completed the lengthy and expensive PA-DSS Certification process and is now PA-DSS Validated.

Pittsburgh, PA, February 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As of December 14, 2009, POSExpress v3.0, point-of-sale software provided by POS Prophet Systems (PPS), is PA-DSS validated.

Starting on July 10, 2010, any business processing credit cards will be required to do so through a PA-DSS Validated system. PPS is one of only a handful of point-of-sale software vendors offering integrated credit card processing that has passed PA-DSS certification.

The PA-DSS Validation process was created by a consortium of major credit card providers (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, etc) called the Payment Card Industry (PCI). They developed a list of rules, mainly revolving around storage, encryption and protection of credit card sensitive data in order to protect consumers from credit card fraud and identity theft.

After July 1, 2010, if a merchant is not PA-DSS compliant and if your data is compromised resulting in a breach of credit card information that results in fraudulent charges, that merchant will be responsible for the charges. Further, the merchant can be fined up to $500,000 per incident and additional fines of up to $5,000 per day.

Existing POSExpress v3.0 users do not need to take any further action; and will be contacted on an individual basis by members of the POS Prophet Systems staff.
