Crossroads Hospice of Philadelphia Salutes all those Hospice Volunteers who Make Such Valuable Contributions to their Communities

Philadelphia, PA, October 31, 2006 --(PR.com)-- November is National Hospice Month and Crossroads Hospice of Philadelphia salutes all those hospice volunteers who make such valuable contributions to their communities. These important people understand that helping the terminally ill through hospice is not about dying but about living. They are special people who make a difference in the lives of those in need, make a valuable contribution to the community, and enhance their own well being.

Most of us will experience a friend or family member with a terminal illness, and we are rarely prepared for the emotional sadness that comes with the suffering. Friendship may be the most precious gift we can give.

Approximately 500,000 hospice volunteers contribute 13 percent of the care services provided to hospice patients and families. This is equal to 10 million hours per year. (This represents almost one volunteer for every two patients).

At Crossroads Hospice, which serves the Philadelphia Metro area, there are a wide range of volunteer opportunities in all 5 counties that include care for patients, support for family members, and administrative work in the hospice office. Potential volunteers are carefully selected and required to attend orientation sessions and training classes.
