Enslow Publishers Announces Music for Abraham Lincoln CD Wins Award

January 19th in Boston, the American Library Association announced its Notable Recording lists for 2010, and included on the list was “Music for Abraham Lincoln: Campaign Songs, Civil War Tunes, Laments for a President,” by Anne Enslow and Ridley Enslow with Jacqueline Schwab on piano.

Berkeley Heights, NJ, March 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- A new music CD, Music for Abraham Lincoln is available for purchase on Amazon.com, ISBN 978-0-7660-3635-2. The CD includes 18 songs and tunes and includes 40 pages of liner notes with history and sources of the music.

"Produced for the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth, the CD breaks new ground. Dozens of recordings have presented the stirring songs and sentimental ballads of the Civil War era. But none have presented music specifically written for or about our nation’s sixteenth President (though some others have claimed, often with skimpy documentation, to present his "favorite music,")" says Anne Enslow. Most of the music on this CD was drawn from music in the Library of Congress’s Alfred Whital Stern Collection of Lincolniana. The featured pianist on this recording is Jacqueline Schwab, whose distinctive playing was featured in Ken Burns’s 1990 Civil War documentary.

In addition to the A.L.A. honor, this CD received the endorsement of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.

Here’s what the experts have to say:
"This wonderful collection of songs about Lincoln is not only entertaining—it transports us back to the Civil War and to the days when Lincoln was alive."
-Doris Kearns Goodwin, author of "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln"

"A fascinating addition to our understanding of our most endlessly fascinating president."
-Jon Meacham, editor of Newsweek and author of "American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House"

"The precise piano talents of Jacqueline Schwab (the accompanist on filmmaker Ken Burns’s classic Civil War series) shine. Extensive liner notes place the songs into historical context."
-Candace Smith, Booklist

The recording is available at Amazon.com. (Confusingly, it’s listed under Books. Search on "Enslow Music for Abraham Lincoln.")
