The Onverse Virtual World Adds Cross-Platform Patcher, Power-Up System

Tempe, AZ, February 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Onverse virtual world has now updated to its version 0.7 software. Included in the update are a new cross-platform patcher, a power-up system, new avatars, stores, items, animations, and optimizations. The update also officially launches its Linux client alpha test.

In background development for five months, the new Onverse cross-platform patcher allows a single point of control for updating the software across Windows, Mac and Linux clients. The patcher brings a lot of agility, flexibility and cost savings for the company to update their virtual world. The company now has the ability to update much more frequently, even in the form of micro-updates for small fixes, without any users having to download the client again, saving bandwidth costs. The patcher also allows the software to be spread more easily, having only an initial 3MB download, down from the original 200MB.

Along with the patcher, many new forms of content have been released as well, the most notable being the new power-up system. The power-up system gives player special boosts in their abilities to increase their capabilities to gather points for shopping. The system is also integrated into their previously released attachment game, IceFall, allowing players to collect multiple power-ups for use in the game.

Steve Pierce, the CEO of Onverse, said about the new system "The power-up system is great because it gives us a foundation for more advanced features such as clothing objects that include power-ups and more attachment game possibilities."

Also included was a remodeling of the avatars to be more realistic, three new shopping stores, new dance animations, over 120 new items, and a rendering optimization for housing and stores to increase performance.

Another surprise was the announcement of the beginning of an alpha test on the world's Linux client, something only a few virtual worlds have released previously. Pierce said "The Linux client was something we've been maintaining from day one, but with the inclusion of the patcher, we now have the ability to get it out there, get it tested, and get it into the hands of dedicated Linux users who don't have a lot of options as far as games go."

Pierce also hinted that with the patcher now out of the way, more resources are being put towards something big in the next update.
